HBO Sports Receives 16 Sports Emmy® Award Nominations
Two of Sports Department’s Most Acclaimed Franchises, Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel & 24/7, Earn a Combined Nine Nominations
NEW YORK, N.Y., March 26, 2020 – HBO Sports received 16 Sports Emmy® Award nominations for the 41st Annual Sports Emmy Awards®, which were announced today in New York.
Two of the sports division’s most acclaimed series, Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel (four) and 24/7 (five), combined to capture nine Sports Emmy nominations for production excellence in 2019.
Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, was nominated in the category of Outstanding Sports Journalism, which the series has won 19 times – more than any other sports journalism program. The series was also nominated for Outstanding Sports News Anthology, which it has captured in five of the past seven years.
HBO Sports’ landmark franchise 24/7, which launched in 2007 and has received 18 Sports Emmy trophies, captured five total nominations, including Outstanding Edited Sports Special or Series for 24/7: Kelly Slater.
Hard Knocks, co-produced by NFL FILMS, was nominated for Outstanding Serialized Sports Documentary, and has won at least one Sports Emmy Award every year the series has aired since 2008.
