truTV today announced the greenlight of an additional 16 episodes of Paid Off with Michael Torpey, the comedic game show which has sparked intense conversation around the student debt crisis. Hailed as offering viewers “the tiniest glimmer of hope” by Esquire and praised for its “interesting and pointed twist” by The New York Times, the half-hour comedy game show series co-created by Michael Torpey and Cowboy Bear Ninja endeavors to do its part to raise awareness of a massive issue, while simultaneously providing life-changing opportunities one contestant at a time. In each episode of Paid Off with Michael Torpey, three lucky college grads – all saddled with student debt – are given the chance to test the depth of their degrees with fun, fast-paced trivia questions. In the end, one lucky winner will get the chance to win the exact amount of their student debt in cash.

The new 16 first-season episodes of the series will go into production this fall, and the nationwide casting call is now open. Prospective contestants can apply to be on the show by visiting paidoffcasting.com.

“I am so thrilled/horrified that the national embarrassment that is the need for this ridiculous game show will continue for another 16 episodes,” said Torpey. “I truly hope the show won't have to exist for long, but until real reform comes to higher education I will continue to highlight the stories of the 45 million Americans affected and give away as much money as possible to as many people as possible.”

Michael Torpey is best known for his work on Orange is the New Black (Netflix), Red Oaks (Amazon) and Sneaky Pete (Amazon). He's also been in numerous commercial campaigns including one for Hanes undergarments, and which afforded him the opportunity to pay off his wife’s student debt. And, as they say, the rest is history.

"Paid Off is a show that has clearly struck a cultural nerve and prompted much-needed conversation about an issue that affects millions of Americans,” said Marissa Ronca, executive vice president of original programming and development for truTV. “Michael’s genuine passion for helping people and raising awareness for the crippling effects of student debt is undeniable and we’re proud to do our small part, further this conversation and give away more money!”

Paid Off with Michael Torpey is produced by Cowboy Bear Ninja with Torpey, Michael Melamedoff, Adrian Selkowitz, Ethan Berlin, and Leigh Hampton serving as Executive Producers. New episodes of the series premiere Tuesdays at 10:00pm ET/PT on truTV, and fans can follow along with the series on social media at #PaidOff.
