Third and final season of 4 Blocks ordered

The third season of the incredibly successful Berlin gangster saga 4 Blocks’, which will comprise of six episodes, has been confirmed. It will also be the final season. It will be produced by TNT Serie, Turner Germany’s series channel together with Wiedemann & Berg Television. Shooting is scheduled to start in spring 2019, the premiere for winter 2019.

Also, launching on 15 December 2018, the second season will be available on Amazon Prime Video in more than 150 countries including the US and the UK and in late 2019 in another 50 countries including Germany and France.

Season two will be available on Amazon Prime Video in the German original language and dubbed into Spanish, Portuguese and Italian and subtitles in many more languages including English, Chinese and Japanese. An English language dubbed version of both seasons is to come in January.

This is something that is both unusual and bucks the trend in the industry. We look forward to producing the final third season for the large and growing fan base of the series.”

4 Blocks season 2 had both increases in linear and on demand viewing. This puts it in the Top 5 series available in 2018 on Sky’s on demand services in terms of average viewers per episode. The episodes were also available for purchase via EST offers on the day after their broadcast. On iTunes Germany, the series reached # 1 (Season 1) and # 2 (Season 2) of the best-selling series of 2018.

4 Blocks was developed by Wiedemann & Berg Television, TNT Serie, and the screenwriting trio Hanno Hackfort, Bob Konrad, and Richard Kropf, as well as by Marvin Kren, who also directed season 1. The second season was directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Der Untergang) and Özgür Yıldırım (Chiko, Nur Gott kann mich richten). Marvin Kren acted as executive producer alongside Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann, and on the broadcaster’s side, Hannes Heyelmann and Anke Greifeneder. Sven Miehe was Co-Executive Producer. In the third season Miehe will become Executive Producer, the concept comes from Hackfort, Konrad, Kropf and Eckehard Weis, scripts will come from Hackfort, Frédéric Hambalek and Niko Schulz-Dornburg. The third season will be directed by Özgür Yıldırım.

4 Blocks premiered at the Berlinale (International Berlin Film Festival) in February 2017 and has since been screened at numerous festivals worldwide. The series has already won 15 awards, including the Grimme Prize, the German Television Prize in three categories, a Golden Camera, and six awards at the Television Prize of the German Academy for Television (DAFF).
