At a young age, Australian actress Geraldine Viswanathan has quickly succeeded in establishing her career in television and film.

Geraldine will next be seen in starring opposite Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney in the upcoming feature Bad Education from producers Fred Berger (La La Land) and Brian Kavanaugh-Johns of Automatik. Based on the true events that writer Mike Makowsky experienced at his high school, the film follows the unfolding of the single largest public-school embezzlement scandal in history. The film premiered at TIFF in September, 2019 – where Geraldine was honored with a Rising Star Award – and will be distributed by HBO Films in 2020.

Viswanathan also stars as the female lead in the TBS comedy Miracle Workers alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi. Executive-produced by Lorne Michaels, the series is based off the Simon Rich book What in God’s Name. The second season will be released on January 28th, 2020.

Viswanathan can most recently be seen playing the title role in the coming-of-age drama Hala. Written and directed by Minhal Baig, the story follows a sixteen-year-old Muslim girl living in Chicago under the strict, religious rules of her parents. Overbrook Entertainment produced the film with Jada Pinkett-Smith serving as executive producer. The film premiered as part of the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in January 2019 and was released in November, 2019 by Apple as the company’s first narrative feature.

Currently in post-production, Geraldine recently wrapped filming the lead role in romantic comedy The Broken Heart Gallery opposite Dacre Montgomery. The project, written and directed by Natalie Krinsky, is produced by No Trace Camping’s Jeff Arkuss.

In April 2018, Viswanathan starred in the lead role of “Kayla” opposite Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz and John Cena in the Universal comedyBlockers. Directed by Kay Cannon, the film was produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver under their Point Grey Pictures banner. That year, Viswanathan starred in the Netflix original comedy The Package. Produced by Ben Stiller, the dark comedy was directed by Jake Szymanski.

Previously, Viswanathan appeared in the film Spice Sisters that won the Short Screenplay Award at the Sydney Film Festival, one of Australia’s most distinguished festivals. She also played a starring role in Australia’s feature comedy Emo the Musical, directed by Neil Triffett. The film won third place as Most Popular Feature at the Melbourne International Film Festival and was an official selection at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2017. Viswanathan has also appeared in the Australian television series Janet King and was a finalist for Australians in Film’s prestigious Heath Ledger Scholarship.
